Submitted on 22/02/2012 - 11:42am relating to the issues Basis for eligibility for list seats (thresholds), Dual Candidacy
I think its important that the threshold for getting list MPs in should be lowered slightly to reduce the number of wasted votes.
The 'back door' of getting the full allocation of MPs for winning an electorate seat leads to pre-election deals being made against that manipulate the electorate and place greater weight on certain electorates and the influence of voters in them. Winning an electorate seat but failing to meet the threshold should result in only the winning electorate MP making it into parliament.
Finally there should be stronger recognition of the role of an electorate MP to their consistency. Candidates should run on the list OR in an electorate
