The threshold should be 4%. This will increase diversity and allow better representation of the people of New Zealand. MMP helps groups of people that identify with each other but are not in the same electorate have representation. For example, religion based parties, pro-cannabis legalisation parties and other radical or single-issue parties. This aspect of MMP should be strengthened, and not seen as a hindrance to stable government. To say that dropping the threshold leads to unstable government is to ignore the fundamental reason why we have democracy. We don't want to become a two-party state like the United States of America where a vote for any party other than the Republicans or the Democrats is a wasted vote.
