MMP helps groups of people that identify with each other but are not in the same electorate have representation. For example, religion based parties, pro-cannabis legalisation parties and other radical or single-issue parties. This aspect of MMP should be strengthened, and not seen as a hindrance to stable government. To say that dropping the threshold leads to unstable government is to ignore the fundamental reason why we have democracy. We don't want to become a two-party state like the United States of America where a vote for any party other than the Republicans or the Democrats is a wasted vote.
