Should the 5% threshold be kept or changed? Why? If you recommend change, what should it be and why?:
The 5% threshold should be kept so that very small fringe parties do not unduly influence procedures
Should the one electorate seat threshold be kept or changed? Why? If you recommend change, what should it be and why?:
The one electorate seat threshold should be changed so that a person winning an electorate seat does not entitle the party to any additional list seats unless the party has polled over the 5% threshold
Should there be a different combination of thresholds? What should they be and why?:
Electorate seat no threshold List seat threshold 5%
Should list MPs continue to be able to stand as candidates in by-elections? If so, why?:
Yes; They would have gone through their parties selection process so there is no reason they could not stand. To do so however they must if selected resign from the list
Should dual candidacy be kept? If so, why?:
No:
If you recommend change, what should it be and why?:
A candidate should be either a electorate or a list candidate but not both as this is undemocratic, & any candidate rejected by their electorate should not be able to be a sitting M.P.
In an election, should voters be able to alter the order of candidates from the list order decided by political parties?:
No the party list should be selected by the party
What should happen when a party wins more electorate seats than it would be entitled to under its share of the party vote?:
When one or more parties gain more electorate seats then their party vote would entitle them to then the number of list seats d be reduced by that amount. The total number of MP's staying at 120
Is this a problem, and what should be done to fix it?:
The proportion of list to electorate seats should remain as present to ensure that there is no a gradual diminishing of proportionality
Please use the space below for any other issues you want to raise:
Any list M.P. leaving their party for any reason must relinquish their seat & status as a M.P. to the next highest list member for that party. Any Electorate M.P. leaving their party must ask their electorate by means of a By-Election to continue on as a M.P. as the electorate may have voted for them as a party vote rater then a personal endorsement
