  • Basis for eligibility for list seats (thresholds)
john tetley

I like it the way it is. i clearly dont accept the MPs comments and their desire for change. to me its about self interest for them rather than any real thoughts about the nature of democracy. There has been a long history of MPs support of electoral systems that favour themselves. one only has to go back to the national partys preference for FPP that lead to many national governments ruling alone without a majority.

The ony change i would support would be a change to the system whereby if one party candidate gains a seat then others on their list follow. in my view up to say 5% if someone gains a seat thats all that party gets.

cheers

If threshold left at 5% or whatever level then this should be the only criteria for eligibilty for list seats. Winning an electorate seat should not bypass the above requirement for list seats.

I strongly disagree with list members entering Parliament and being able to dream up" contentiou" Bills when in fact nobody voted for them.
This should only be available to people who have been voted into Parliament.

A LIST m.p. should NOT be able to leave the party that gave him a seat to become an INDEPENDANT or join another party. His only move is resignation.

A "LIST" M.P. should not be able to leave the party that put him into parliament to become an "independant" or join another party. His only move should be resignation.

all members of parliment shoud be put there, by the people, for the people, and removed by by the people when required. LIST members should not be allowed at any time, for any reason. do not try to fix it, it will never work.

reduce the number of MPs by the same % that the goverment is reducing
the cival service and at the same time.

  • Dual Candidacy

Lower the threshold to 1/120 of the eligible voters to be sure that no votes are wasted. That is each MP would represent the correct ratio of the voting population.

Dual canddacy should not be allowed. The party list bigwigs have no time for their electorate issues anyway.

The least manipulation of an outcome by political parties, the better in my view. I prefer the threshold remain at 5% and gaining an electoral seat should not interfere with that.
